The present invention relates to antibodies that specifically bind to CD38 that are capable of killing CD38 + cells by induction of apoptosis, antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), and complement-dependent cytotoxicity. The described antibodies can be used as medicaments or in the manufacture of medicaments wherein the antibodies can be administered to a human subject in a safe therapeutic dose of about 20 mg / kg or less.
