PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide antibodies specific to human islet amyloid polypeptide (also referred to as amylin, IAPP and proIAPP) or fragments thereof, and pharmaceutical compositions or diagnostic compositions using them.SOLUTION: The invention provides an anti IAPP human monoclonal antibody or IAPP binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to an IAPP epitope which comprises CNTATCA amino acid sequence of IAPP binding fragment, where the monoclonal antibody does not recognize amyloid-β peptide (Aβ1-42), but preferentially recognizes IAPP aggregates comprising IAPP oligomers and/or fibrils over physiological IAPP.
