PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically display a plurality of planes 404-409 from a 3D ultrasound data set.SOLUTION: A processor module 116 maps a reference plane 401 into a 3D ultrasound data set and automatically calculates image planes 404-406 based on the reference plane 401 for a current view position 134 and a prior view position 134. A display 118 is provided for selectively displaying the image planes 404-406 and 407-409 associated with the current and prior reference planes 401, 402.
