A surgical implant (100) comprising a body having proximal and distal ends and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween, the body comprising a core (105) and at least one end portion (115) at the distal end and a plurality of discrete whiskers (110) extending outwardly from the core (105) and at an acute angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the body in a proximal direction.
