The lancet is slidable within and releasably engaged with an elongated lancet guide that remains stationary with use of the device. A shell is axially movable relative to the lancet guide between a rest position and an actuate position, with the lancet being spring loaded within the lancet guide by movement of the shell from the rest position to the actuate position.
