The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or the like for prevention or treatment of obesity containing medicarpin or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as an active ingredient. More specifically, the pharmaceutical composition or the like for prevention or treatment of obesity is capable of inducing the differentiation of white adipose cells into brown fat cells or beige fat cells by browning of fat cells exhibiting phenotypes such as an increase in oxygen consumption, generation of multilocular lipid droplets, increases in intracellular mitochondria content and copy number, and an increase in the expression ratio of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) genes. According to the present invention, the medicarpin or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof is a very useful invention for a pharmaceutical industry or the like since the medicarpin or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof can be applied to medicines or the like for treating a metabolic disease such as obesity by effectively differentiating the white adipose cells into the brown or beige fat cells through browning.본 발명은 메디카르핀(Medicarpin) 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용 가능한 염을 유효성분으로 함유하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 등에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는, 산소 소비 증가, 다소포 지질 액적(multilocular lipid droplets) 생성, 세포 내 미토콘드리아 함량 및 카피 수의 증가 및 UCP1(uncoupling protein 1) 유전자의 발현량 증가와 같은 표현형을 나타내는 지방세포의 갈색화(browning)에 의한 백색 지방세포의 갈색 지방세포 또는 베이지 지방세포로의 분화를 유도시킬 수 있는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 등에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 메디카르핀 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용 가능한 염은 갈색화(browning)을 통하여 백색 지방세포를 갈색 또는 베이지 지방세포로 효과적으로 분화시킴으로써 이를 비만과 같은 대사성 질환의 치료를 위한 의약 등에 적용될 수 있으므로, 제약 산업 등에 매우 유용한 발명이다.
