Embodiments of an accessdevice system useful for single or limited portprocedures comprises a retractor and a gel capremovably coupled to the retractor. The gel capcomprises a gel pad that acts as an artificial bodywall, through which instruments may be insertedinto a body cavity, either directly or through oneor more trocars. The gel pad permits flexibleinstrument placement, as well as translational andangular degrees of freedom for the instrumentswhile maintaining a gas tight seal.
