A separation system 200a for retrieving one or more anaesthetic agents from a supercritical solution is provided. The system is arranged to separate anaesthetic agent from a supercritical solution comprising anaesthetic agent and a supercritical fluid. The system may also separate contaminants for the supercritical solution. The separating means may comprises at least one chromatography column 210a,b,c where chromatographic separation is based on polarity, molecular size, or molecular weight. The separating means may comprises at least one fractionation column in which fractionation is driven by carbon dioxide. The separating means may comprises a cyclonic collector.
