A description is given of a kit for motorizing manually driven wheelchairs of any type, which includes means that enable the wheelchair occupant to control the movements of the wheelchair from one place to another. The kit essentially comprises three subassemblies composed of an entrainment and propulsion unit that includes two electric motors, one for each wheel, which are secured to two respective portions of a telescopic shaft, a control unit that includes an electronic control box secured to an arm of the chair and provided with a joystick-type control, and a power-supply unit constituted by electric, lead or lithium batteries supported on supporting trays and designed to provide electrical power to the propulsion and control members of the wheelchair.
