The biofilter comprises a housing； an inlet defining an upstream end of the housing； an outlet defining a downstream end of the housing； a chamber comprising an upstream opening and a downstream opening, the chamber configured to contain a filtration medium； and a counter flow generator for generating a counter flow of water in an upstream direction in the chamber.
