To exclude a sound propagation medium chamber layer in a mechanical scanning type ultrasonic probe.
SOLUTION: A movable body 14 performs a rotary motion centering ON a rotary shaft 16. The movable body 14 has a vibrator unit 18 and overhung parts 21 and 22 provided ON both sides of it. Thus and guide surfaces 21A and 22A are configured ON both sides of a transmission/reception surface 18A. They configure a slip surface 14A. In a state where the slip surface 14A abuts ON a living body surface 26 and the slip surface 14A is further moved and ultrasonic waves are transmitted and received. ON the slip surface 14A and the living body surface 26, a sound propagation medium is applied beforehand. The intrusion of such a medium or the like into the probe is limited by an opening edge 24A.
