A wireless, mobile point-of-care system is provided including a plurality ofmobile point-of-care carts, each capable of transporting a plurality ofpatient-specific medication or supply drawers or containers. The mobile point-of-care carts provide for both auto-identification of patient containerscarried by the cart, as well as real-time tracking of the carts themselves.Using the combination of these two features, each patient-specific drawer canbe located throughout the hospital at any given time. A method is furtherprovided for utilizing this location information to generate a medicationdelivery/removal plan or route, which can be used by delivery personnel toalleviate the burden caused by making medication carts mobile.
