The stapler (100, 200) includes a housing (102), elongated member (104), and a reload (106). A cartridge (112) is configured to selectively couple to a first jaw member (108) of the reload (106) and includes one or more resilient members (126) thereon. An anvil (111) operably supported on a second jaw member (110) of the reload (106) is configured to compress one or more fasteners (1 17a) ejected from the cartridge (112). The anvil (111) includes one or more locking members (132) thereon. A knife (105) is configured to translate through the cartridge (112) and anvil (111) when the first and second jaw members (106, 108) are in a closed configuration. Engagement between the knife (105) and the resilient member(s) (126) causes the resilient member(s) (126) to move from an initial configuration that allows the knife (105) to travel distally past the locking member(s) (132) to a final configuration that allows the locking member(s) (132) to engage the knife (105).
