The invention relates to a device (1) for the application of a transcutaneouselectricstimulation stimulus onto the surface of a section of the human ear (2) whichcomprises at least two electrodes (3, 4), wherein the device (1) comprises acontroldevice (5) which is designed for an input of a stimulation current (I) via theelectrodes (3, 4). To be able to carry out an automated optimal adaption ofthetranscutaneous stimulation to an individual patient the invention providesthat thestimulation device (1) comprises: a storage element (6) in which an allowedrangeof values (WB) for a contact resistance (R K) can be stored which contactresistance(R K) is given between the at least two electrodes (3, 4) when the device (1)isoperated according to the intended use; a measuring device (7) for measuringof thecontact resistance (R K) which is given between the at least two electrodes(3, 4)when the device (1) is operated according to the intended use; means (8) forchanging of the range of values (WB) for the contact resistance (R K) whichrangeof values (WB) is stored in the storage element (6), wherein the means (8) canchange the stored range of values (WB) when a contact resistance (R K) whichismeasured by the measuring device (7) lies outside of the stored allowed rangeofvalues.
