Disclosed is an indanone derivative of formula (II), (III), (IV) or (V) where an amide, ester, carbonate, phosphate, sulphate or carbamate either attached directly to the indanone or piperidine ring or is linked with a space. The other derivatives are as disclosed in the description. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (II), (III), (IV) or (V) and the use of a compound of formula (II), (III), (IV) or (V) in the manufacture of a medicament for treating Alzheimers disease, myasthenia gravis, Huntingtons disease or glaucoma. Examples of compounds include: Ethyl 3-(( 4-((5,6-dimethoxy-1-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-yl)methyl)piperidin-1-yl)methyl)benzoate Ethyl 4-(4-(( 4-((5,6-dimethoxy-l-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-yl)methyl)piperidin-1-yl)methyl)benzamido)butanoate and Isopropyl 4-((4-((5, 6-dimethoxy-l-oxo-2,3 -dihydro-1 H -inden-2-yl)methyl)piperidin-1-yl)methyl)benzoate.
