PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent having long lasting excellent disinfectant and antiseptic effects with a small amount of use for materials of papermaking industry in an alkaline region such as a coating liquid.SOLUTION: The industrial disinfectant and antiseptic agent contains effective ingredients of 1,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-5,5-dimethylhydantoin and 2-bromo-2-nitropropan-1,3-diol, 2,2-dibromo-2-nitroethanol or 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-diacetoxypropane. The disinfectant and antiseptic method is treatment of subject materials with aforementioned effective ingredients of disinfectant and antiseptic agent singly or in a mixture. Their disinfectant and antiseptic effects can be safely obtained at low concentrations and at a low cost in comparison with single use of conventional agents.
