Disclosed are stable citrate, malonate and succinate salts of the HIV inhibitor ethyl N-[(S)({ [(2R,5R)-5-(6-amino-9H-purin-9-yl)-4-fluoro-2,5-dihydrofuran-2-yl]oxy} methyl)phenoxyphosphinoyl]-L-alaninate (formula (I)). Salts of formula (I) are useful as reverse transcriptase inhibitors that block the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in vivo and in vitro, and have limited undesirable side effects when administered to humans.
