The present invention relates to a positioning system for positioning a person on a surgical table, comprising a mattress set and at least one positioning pad having a water proof and breathable cover enclosing one or more layers of foam where the cover or a layer of foam comprises a data storage device capable of communicating with a data processing unit. The position system serves to inhibit decubitus ulcer on a person placed in a static position.
