The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition, a functional food composition and a cosmetic composition for preventing or treating stress-related diseases comprising methyl benzoate or derivatives thereof as an active ingredient. The composition according to the present invention can be applied as an efficient therapeutic agent for various stress-related diseases accompanied by an increase in cortisol secretion as well as stress-causing nervous diseases and skin diseases by remarkably improving behavioral indices of entities exposed to a stress environment, significantly reducing concentration of cortisol in blood, and remarkably suppressing cortisol concentration and stress-related gene expression in skin fibroblasts.
