The purpose of the present invention is to provide an adsorbent for oral administration, said adsorbent being capable of adsorbing a large amount of indole in the presence of bile acid. The problem can be solved by providing the adsorbent for oral administration according to the present invention that is characterized by comprising a spherical activated carbon, said spherical activated carbon having a specific surface area determined by the BET method of 800 m2/g or more, a bulk density of 0.3-0.8 g/mL, and a pore volume, relative to pores with a pore diameter of less than 3 nm, of 0.3 mL/g or more, and showing a micropore/mesopore ratio (Vm) determined by formula (1): Vm=Vmic/Vmet [wherein: Vmic stands for the pore volume of pores with a pore diameter of less than 3 nm; and Vmet stands for pore volume of pores with a pore diameter of 3-50 nm] of 3.0 or more.
