PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved bacterial strains with enhanced selectivity for tumors and reduced toxicity such that these improved strains may be used as therapeutics, vaccines, and as a guidepost to monitoring tumor progression and evaluating and optimizing tumor treatment.SOLUTION: Bacteria that are auxotrophic for at least two amino acids found in at least one tumor are effective antitumor treatments, labeling agents, and vaccines against infection.
