PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target for a neutron generator that has a long life, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor.SOLUTION: A target for a neutron generator, for generating a neutron byLi(p,n)Be reaction through emitting a proton beam, accelerated by an accelerator, to a lithium, which is a target material, comprises a metal substrate 52A holding the target material 54； and a sealed metal thin film 53 on the holding face side X, on which the target material 54 is held. The holding face side X of the metal substrate 52A includes: an edge frame part 52a； and an embossment structure in which a plurality of island parts 52b are left on the inside surrounded by the edge frame part 52a, and other areas other than the edge frame part 52a and the island parts 52b are formed as recessed parts reduced in thickness by an amount corresponding to the thickness of the target material 54. The sealed metal thin film 53 and the surfaces of the edge frame part 52a and island parts 52b are HIP joined, and the target material 54 is sealed in the recessed parts by the sealed metal thin film 53. It is preferable that the island parts 52b be composed of lithium alloy.【課題】長寿命の中性子発生装置用のターゲットとその製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】加速器により加速された陽子ビームをターゲット材であるリチウムに照射して、7Ｌｉ（ｐ，ｎ）7Ｂｅ反応により中性子を発生させる中性子発生装置用のターゲットであって、ターゲット材５４を保持する金属基板５２Ａと、ターゲット材５４を保持する保持面側Ｘに密封金属薄膜５３を備える。金属基板５２Ａの保持面側Ｘには、縁枠部５２ａと、縁枠部５２ａに囲まれた内側に島部５２ｂを複数残して、縁枠部５２ａ及び複数の島部５２ｂ以外の他の領域をターゲット材５４の厚み分だけ減肉された凹部とするエンボス構造を有する。密封金属薄膜５３と、縁枠部５２ａ及び複数の島部５２ｂの表面とが、ＨＩＰ接合されており、ターゲット材５４が密封金属薄膜５３により凹部に密封される。島部５２ｂはリチウム合金で構成することが好ましい。【選択図】図５
