The object of the invention is an active principle to be obtained from ophiopogon japonicus for use in a topical application on the skin in the treatment of atopic dermatitis in the human being, in particular to reduce the rate of relapse of atopic dermatitis, reduce the score of gravity of atopic dermatitis (scorad), to reduce the intensity and frequency of relapses of atopic dermatitis, reduce the size of the eczema of atopic dermatitis and to improve the quality of life of patients with atopic dermatitis and their families.
