The present invention provides an absorbent article using a cotton-containing nonwoven fabric as a surface sheet. The absorbent article causes hardly any discomfort, such as the feeling of being wet or sweaty, to a wearer thereof, and hardly causes skin irritation. In the absorbent article according to the present invention, a surface sheet (2) thereof is a nonwoven fabric which comprises at least two fiber layers including a first fiber layer (201) composed of cotton and thermoplastic resin fibers and a second fiber layer (202) composed of hydrophobic thermoplastic resin fibers.
