The present invention relates to a composition for improving memory and treating and preventing cognitive dysfunction containing a Hedyotidis Diffusae Herba extract as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the Hedyotidis Diffusae Herba extract has shown effectiveness in improving memory in an experiment for passive avoidance response and an underwater maze test using a mouse induced with memory impairment using scopolamine, and also increases expression of genes encoding brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and p-CREB, thereby enabling production of health functional foods and pharmaceutical compositions effective in improving memory and cognitive dysfunction.본 발명은 백화사설초 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 기억력 증진 및 인지 기능 장애 치료 및 예방을 위한 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 백화사설초 추출물은 스코폴라민으로 기억력 손상이 유도된 마우스를 이용한 수중미로 실험 및 수동회피반응 시험에서 기억력 증진 효과를 나타내고, BDNF 및 p-CREB 유전자의 발현을 증가시키는 활성을 가지고 있어, 기억력 증진 및 인지 기능 장애에 효과적인 약학적 조성물 및 건강기능식품을 제공할 수 있다.
