An applicator instrument for dispensing a surgical fastener includes a housing having an actuator, a shaft extending from the housing, and an end cap secured to the distal end of the shaft. The end cap has a lower surface, an upper surface, a lower distal edge adjacent to the lower surface, and an end surface that slopes upward and proximally from the lower distal edge to the upper surface of the end cap. A surgical fastener delivery window is formed on the inclined distal end face of the cap for dispensing the surgical fastener. The beveled distal end surface extends continuously around the outer periphery of the surgical fastener delivery window. The cap includes a plurality of gripping posts that project distally from the inclined distal end face of the distal end cap.
