Methods are provided for treating type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1Dm) using helminthic parasite preparations. Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease affecting 246 million people worldwide. Current estimates show that 23.6 million people in the United States, or 7.8% of the population, have the disease, including 5.7 million in whom it is undiagnosed. Diabetes affects every organ system of the body.
