The present invention relates to a connector which can be used for coupling components, particularly of medical diagnostic instruments for use in human and veterinary medicine, such as a video endoscope. According to the invention, a connector for receiving and/or transmitting a plurality of signals comprises a coupling portion and a receiving portion which can be inserted one inside the other, wherein the outside surface of the coupling portion and the inside surface of the receiving portion are provided with at least one row of two or more mutually corresponding contact elements, wherein said row or rows lie in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the connector at an angle to said axis such that each subsequent contact element of a row in the longitudinal direction of the connector is offset relative to the preceding contact element in a radially inward direction on the connecting portion and in a radially outward direction on the receiving portion.
