A clip mechanism (10 60) for securing an item onto a projecting button defines a keyhole-shaped slot (20), so the button can pass through at one end but not at the other end. It comprises a frame element (12 62) and a slot-defining element (14 64) movable relative to the frame element between a first relative position and a second relative position, and at least one locking element (24 80) adjacent to the slot (20) at an intermediate position. In the first relative position the locking element (24 80) protrudes into the slot (20), so preventing the button from passing along the slot, whereas in the second relative position the locking element (24 80) does not prevent movement of the button along the slot. The locking elements (24 80) prevent unintentional removal of the clip mechanism (10 60) from the projecting button.
