PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently illuminate and image a subject such as a human body while changing the field of view in a wide angle of view, and adaptively suppress deterioration of image quality of an captured image based on a light-dark illumination balance on the subject. SOLUTION: An endoscope is inserted into a subject, arranged at a tip portion of the endoscope, and arranged at an imaging unit and a tip portion for variably imaging a subject within an angle of view of a predetermined angle. A plurality of illumination units for illuminating irradiation ranges in a plurality of different directions are provided. Each of the plurality of illumination units illuminates by changing the amount of illumination light to the corresponding irradiation range according to the viewing direction of the imaging unit.
