PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cotton swab which has a small diameter but can exert a function as a large diameter cotton-like body. SOLUTION: A cotton-like body 4 is attached to a holding portion 32 provided on the tip end side of a core member 3 inserted in a hollow interior 21 of a cylindrical support portion 2 so as to be able to advance and retract and a tip end portion 22 of the support portion 2. It is held so that it can expand and contract in the outer diameter direction. By retreating the core material 3 with respect to the support portion 2, the cotton-like body 4 is compressed from the front and the rear, and expands in the outer diameter direction. By advancing the core material 3 again with respect to the support portion 2, the cotton-like body 4 is reduced in diameter in the outer diameter direction.
