PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant cultivation body enabling a three-dimensionally arranged water retaining plant growing material to demonstrate water retention as the whole, and suitable for three-dimensional plant cultivation, and to provide a method for producing the plant cultivation body.

SOLUTION: This plant cultivation body is composed of many water retaining plant growing layers 10, many vertically separated layers 20, many supporting bodies 30, and watering pipes 40 for each of the vertically separated layers 20. The vertically separated layers 20 are put all between each of the water retaining plant growing layers 10 and water retaining plant growing layers 10 thereunder. Each of the vertically separated layers 20 is made of a lattice-like structure 22, and each of the lattice-like structures 22 is supported by a metallic supporting body 30 which is set on the base end part of the lower lattice-like structures 22. Each of the water retaining plant growing layers 10 is supported by the lattice-like structures 22 in the vertically separated layers 20.
