PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic system for reducing image strain produced when a CMOS type solid-state imaging element is used.SOLUTION: In the endoscopic system having an electron endoscope having the CMOS type solid-state imaging element, a processor and a light source device having a light source, a global reset signal is supplied to all of pixel lines to start the exposure operation of all of the pixel lines at the same time and, after the elapse of predetermined exposure time, the irradiation of a specimen with illumination light is stopped to complete the exposure operation of all of the pixel lines at the time to thereby to allow the exposure periods of all of the pixel lines to coincide with each other. Then, the charges accumulated in the respective pixel lines at a predetermined field cycle are read in timings successively shifted in a time axis direction at every pixel line.
