A portable blood pressure measuring apparatus and a method therefor are provided. A method for measuring blood pressure by an electronic device includes measuring a blood pressure of a user; measuring a Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) using a pulse wave and an ElectroCardioGram (ECG) signal of the user, wherein the pulse wave is measured by an optical sensor, and the ECG signal is measured by an ECG electrodes portion; and compensating the blood pressure using the PWV.
