A pressure reducing valve (1) for use in a system (100) adapted to deliver a breathinggas (18) to a patient. The pressure reducing valve (1) is structured to communicatea flow of breathing gas (18) to such a patient's airway during an inspiratoryphase. The pressure reducing valve (1) is structured to isolate the flow of breathinggas (18) from the patient's airway and to "dump" the flow of breathinggas (18) and a flow of- exhalation gas (20) to atmosphere during the expiratoryphase. The flow of breathing gas (18) is dumped to atmosphere through a first numberof ports (8a)； whereas a flow of exhalation gas (20) is dumped to atmosphere througha second number of ports (8b). Because the flow of breathing gas (18) remains isolatedfrom the flow of exhalation gas (20), less effort is required by a patient duringthe expiratory phase.
