PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope having an insertion unit with a front end section of a small diameter capable of preventing built-in members in the front end section from being easily tilted even if the front end section is impacted.SOLUTION: A hard front end section 21 includes a cylinder member 51 formed as a jacket for the hard front end section 21 and having a front end section 51a, a base end section 51b, and a bottom surface 51c disposed at the front end section 51a and a cylindrical connecting and housing section 53 having a front end section 53a and a base end section 53b, for connecting to built-in members at the base end section 53b or for housing the built-in members in such a way as to position them, with the front end section 53a fitted for positioning into an opening 51d formed in the bottom face 51c, so that the cylindrical connecting and housing section 53 is disposed inside the cylinder member 51.
