Method involves: (a) displaying an optotype image and a plurality of reference images, (b) receiving a response relative to the optotype image, (c) determining whether from a plurality of reference images a reference image determined by a response has the same shape as an optotype image, wherein one reference image from the plurality of reference images has the same shape as the optotype image, and (d) displaying the next image of the optotype selected according to the determination result made at step (c), and the plurality of reference images, wherein two images of the optotype and two sets of the plurality of reference images located respectively on the periphery of each of the optotype images are displayed at steps (a) and (d), so that both eyes of the subject are inspected.
