The present invention relates to a system and method of managing a group of dairy animals. More particularly, the invention relates to measuring one or more milk parameters, comparing this parameter to a criterion, and allowing an animal access to a pasture based on this comparison. The milk parameter is related to the composition of milk obtained from a dairy animal in as far as the composition is defined by at least one of the amount of protein and the energy intake of the dairy animal. The measured milk parameter is, for example, urea. Access to the pasture will be completely or partly blocked for a dairy animal having a high content of urea. This dairy animal is thus prevented from taking in an undesirably large amount of protein.La présente invention concerne un procédé de prise en charge d'un groupe d'animaux laitiers comprenant les étapes consistant à traire au moins un des animaux laitiers (10) pour en récupérer le lait ； à mesurer la valeur d'au moins un paramètre propre au lait et associé à sa composition, dans la mesure où ladite composition est définie par la quantité de protéines et/ou d'énergie absorbée par l'animal laitier ； à comparer au moins ladite valeur mesurée avec un critère ； et à laisser ledit animal laitier avoir accès ou pas à un pâturage (4) herbeux, en fonction des résultats de ladite comparaison. Le paramètre propre au lait ainsi mesuré peut correspondre, par exemple, au taux d'urée. Grâce à l'invention, l'accès au pâturage sera complètement ou partiellement interdit à un animal laitier dont le taux d'urée est élevé. On empêche ainsi ledit animal laitier d'absorber une quantité trop importante de protéines.
