The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a viscoelastic composition that has excellent manipulability and is suitable for uses in which, when an opaque dark liquid accumulates inside a tube and obstructs the field of view of an endoscope, the liquid is pushed away, securing the field of view of the endoscope; and a method for securing the field of view of an endoscope which involves using the viscoelastic composition. The viscoelastic composition for securing the field of view of an endoscope contains water and a substance exhibiting viscoelastic properties, preferably has a hardness of 550 N/m2 or less, a viscosity (25 DEG C) of 200-2,000 mPa·s, a loss tangent of 0.6 or less, and more preferably, an electrical conductivity of 250 [mu]S/cm or less.
