The present invention relates to pharmaceutical formulations of gemcitabine- [phenyl-benzoxy-L-alaninyl)]-phosphate, a monophosphate derivative of the well-known cancer therapeutic drug gemcitabine. In particular, the present invention relates to a formulation comprising an aprotic polar solvent, preferably dimethylacetamide (DMA). Formulations containing these solvents provide a therapeutically effective treatment for gemcitabine- [phenyl-benzoxy-L-alaninyl)]-phosphate.
