The intramedullary device includes a housing and an elongate shaft. The distraction shaft of the intramedullary device is attached to one of the portions of the bone using, for example, one or more attachment screws. The housing of the intramedullary device is attached to a second portion of the bone using, for example, one or more attachment screws. During treatment, the bones continue to elongate and create new segregations that can result in bone formation.
