FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely, pulmonology and neonatology, and can be used for early prediction of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) of a severe degree in preterm infants born with extremely low body weight (ELBW). Method consists in determining the relative percentage of CD14HLA-DR-monocytes and CD4CD25-lymphocytes, the presence of severe anemia, requiring blood transfusion in the neonatal period, in the umbilical blood of children by the flow cytofluorometry method. Prognostic index is calculated (PI): PI = 0.074×X1+6.72×X2+3.27×X3-5.31, where: X1 – relative percentage of CD14HLA-DR-monocytes of blood, %; X2 is the absolute number of CD4CD25-lymphocytes, 10/l; X3 – presence/absence of severe anemia in the neonatal period, requiring a blood transfusion (1/0); 5.31 – constanta. At values PI < 0, a high risk of developing bronchopulmonary dysplasia of a severe degree is predicted, and at PI > 0, a conclusion about the low risk of development of this pathological cond
