PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for controlling an amount of irradiated light or laser oscillation frequency according to a retention distance in the case of photoacoustic imaging, and shortening a restraint time of an object.SOLUTION: An object information acquisition device includes a retention unit that retains an object, an irradiation unit that irradiates the object with pulsed light via the retention unit, a probe that receives acoustic waves generated by the object irradiated with the pulsed light, a processing unit that uses the acoustic waves to acquire intracorporeal characteristic information on the object, a position acquisition unit that acquires information on the position of the retention unit, and a control unit that controls an amount of pulsed light to be applied from the irradiation unit and an oscillation frequency on the basis of the information on the position acquired by the position acquisition unit.
