A syringe and detachable needle assembly having binary attachment featuresinclude an elongate syringe barrel (48) having a longitudinal axis and an opendistal end including a collar (55). The collar includes a cylindrically shapedsidewall having an inside surface and an outside surface. A needle assembly (61)includes the hub (62) having a body portion including a proximal end, a distalend and a conduit therethrough. A cannula (70) is attached to the hub. A lug (68)is provided on one of the collar and the hub and a ramp (59) and a rest surface is providedon the other of the collar and the hub. The ramp is oriented at an acute angle withrespect to longitudinal axis for guiding the lug during needle assembly attachment,to the rest surface forcing the hub to contact the barrel to form a seal the hub andthe barrel.
