PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high brightness pearl pigment by decreasing a refractive index of a substrate and increasing a refractive index difference between the substrate and a covering material.SOLUTION: A pearl pigment is provided which is formed by covering a porous silica substrate having a large number of pores with a covering material having a refractive index larger than that of the silica substrate. A pearl pigment is provided where the silica substrate has a shape of a thin plate. A pearl pigment is provided where the diameter of the pores of the silica substrate is 1.0-50.0 nm.
