The method involves determining imaging parameters by acquiring patient parameters, receiving user selected parameters or by selecting system acquisition settings. Image data are acquired from a patient (12). The imaging parameters are stored together with the acquired image data. The stored imaging parameters are retrieved for use in a subsequent examination. Positional information about the patient is obtained. The patient parameters represent patient information or anatomy that is imaged. An independent claim is also included for an imaging system with an acquisition subsystem and a processing subsystem.
