PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition having high medicinal activities and capable of using knotweed more efficiently by extracting an active ingredient of the knotweed and using the extract as a raw material for a health food or a medicine to effectively utilize the characteristics possessed by the knotweed.SOLUTION: The extract from a plant belonging to the genus Polygonum of Polygonaceae, especially the extract from young buds of Polygonum hydropiper L. of a cultivar, being soluble in water and acetic acid, or slightly soluble in the acetic acid but soluble in ethanol, and containing idaein or quercitrin as an essential component has high pharmacodynamic activities.
