The present invention is an invention in the field of personal care compositions, particularly whitening compositions. There remains a need for compositions that combine the reduction of cyclic adenylic acid with the reduction of melanin content in melanocytes. Niacinamide in combination with the MMP inhibitor galaldine was found to synergistically reduce melanin content in melanocytes. Accordingly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a synergistic combination of niacinamide and galaldine for use in whitening.
