A method and system of establishing communications between at least twoindependent software modules in asafety critical system, such as a medical system, is provided. The designcomprises providing an exclusive Bluetooth connectionbetween at least two wireless devices. A master wireless device (212) isconfigured with Bluetooth master device functionalityand a slave wireless device (213) is configured with Bluetooth slave devicefunctionality. The wireless devices are employed inperforming a medical procedure. The method further comprises acquiring astored unique address from the slave wireless deviceover the Bluetooth connection, comparing the stored unique address to a masterwireless device unique address available at themaster wireless device, and exclusively pairing the master wireless device andthe slave wireless device when the unique addressacquired from the slave wireless device is found to identically match themaster wireless device unique address.
