An intraocular lensfor providing enhanced vision includesan optic with a clear aperture overwhich light may be focused ontoor near the retina of an eye. Theoptic includes an anterior surface andan opposing posterior surface, thesurfaces disposed about an opticalaxis. The optic includes a centralzone and an outer zone disposed aboutthe central zone. The central zonecomprises a plurality of optical powersthat progressively vary between a firstoptical power at a center of the centralzone and a second optical power at aperiphery of the central zone, whereinthe absolute value of the difference between the first optical power and thesecond optical power being between predeterminedvalues. The outer zone comprises a third optical power and may also have anegative spherical aberration. The optic typically has avariation in optical power over the entire clear aperture that is less than apredetermined amount.
